New Surface Treatment RoHS Compatible Black Plating

The new black surface treatment is designed as the replacement for the previous black chromated AE parts. It gives selected industrial latches and strikes a durable black finish while remaining fully RoHS compatible.

Customers can choose between a matte black finish and a glossy black finish. The matte finish is recommended when a more discreet, technical or military-style appearance is required. The glossy finish is suitable when a more visible, refined black surface is preferred.

Production Information

Availability, MOQ and Series Compatibility

Because the black plating process adds thickness to the latch components, this treatment is only suitable for selected latch series with enough clearance for the movable and rotating parts.

Minimum Order Quantity

Current MOQ for Black Plated Latches

LatchLock is evaluating this black plated finish as a possible standard product option, which could make a lower MOQ of 100 pieces possible in the future. For the moment, the first production requires a minimum quantity of 250 pieces.

During cathodic dip coating, the latch is immersed in a bath and the surface treatment is applied through cathodic anodisation. This process adds thickness to the latch. For this reason, the black finish is currently recommended only for the MLLA and HLLA series.

Smaller latch series do not have enough clearance around the movable or rotating parts. In those cases, the black coating could wear off during use because the moving components have insufficient space.
